Sciatica Treatment with Tens Unit

The sciatic nerve begins in the lower back, where it branches off and goes down each buttock, hip, and thigh. It branches again at the knees and continues to the feet. The sciatic nerve is the longest and largest in the body and, at its thickest, is as large around as a finger. Several conditions, such as a herniated disc or spinal stenosis, can cause irritation and inflammation of the sciatic nerve. When this occurs, the sciatic nerve begins to transmit pain signals. Sciatica discomfort may begin as numbness or tingling in the buttock or upper thigh, but it often worsens with time.

Tens Unit machines send electrical pulses through the skin to prevent pain signals from reaching the brain. In theory, Tens Unit machines should indeed work well for Sciatica. In addition to preventing the pain, Tens Unit machines also aid in the release of Endorphins, which are natural pain killers found in your body.

Many people who suffer from Sciatica irritation use Tens Unit machine regularly to help manage the pain. Tens Units are  totally helpful and work over the long term with minimal side effects.

To use a Tens machine, you really just need to charge the product, clean your skin, and apply the electrodes. The remote control of the machine will allow you to adjust the speed and strength of the pulses to accommodate for whatever amount of pain you may be experiencing. Tens machines don't cause any pain either, all you'll feel is a strong tingling sensation.

While results are mixed, about 80% of people experience a great deal of relief in their Sciatica pain during their first use of a Tens Unit machine. These numbers are very promising, and make it worth your while to at least test a Tens Unit machine to see if one will work for you. While pain relief is generally temporary, the real goal is to abolish the pain over the long-term. This is done by using a Tens Unit machine to decrease pain enough for light exercise.

The exercise is what really helps with Sciatica pain and is typically the suggested route. Tens Unit machines are used if pain has gotten to the point that it prevents someone from exercising.

In this case, you'd use a Tens Unit machine to relieve the pain enough so you can walk and get some mild movement in throughout your day. The action of exercising pain-free is what will truly help with your Sciatica pain in the long run.

I’ve been experiencing excruciating pain from my lower back and radiating through my butt and hip down to my toes (decreasing in severity the lower on my body). It’s been three days and day 1 was mild. Day 2 was painful and mobility was severely low. Day 3 (today) was so painful. I was paralyzed on my floor crying on pain for 30-45 minutes. I crawled/dragged myself up the stairs to get my TEchCare Plus 24 and couldn’t wait for a pause in my pain/spasm to apply the pads. I e had it on for 15 minutes and I feel so much better. Not pain-free yet, but. I longer lying on the floor crying. I am so sure it’s a herniated disk, and I am planning on going to a walk in GP tomorrow, but I am thankful for the fast delivery and result so far!!

I ruptured 2 discs on January 1, 2010
I had three different doctors from three completely different offices say I had a pulled muscle.

I FINALLY was able to get in to see my regular doctor who also prescribed muscle relaxers even though by this time I was dragging my right leg from the death grip pain I was having down my right leg all the way to my right foot. They referred me to a physical therapist and as soon as she turned the corner and took one look at me in a fetal position atop her physical therapy table and said I will not even touch you. She gave me a heated pack to put across by back myself as she three way called my physician and a specialist. The specialist got me in two days later. Same thing happened as he walked into the exam room. He asked me to get in the position that gave me the greatest amount of relief. I crawled up onto the exam table and assumed the fetal position but with my behind in the air and my knees as close to my ears as humanly possible. He immediately sent me to out patient to have an immediate MRI and got the results in an hour. I had one disc that the gel from inside the disc and spine was clearly visible on the film, another disc was also bulged far out of normal position, I have a very narrowing of the stenosis and BAD arthritis riddled throughout my body. He put me in the smallest, but highest quality back brace, high doses of pain medication, a traction unit I had to go to at least 3 times a week and finally was approved through insurance for my own home traction unit, and a tens unit.

I’m glad to say I no longer take pain medication and only use my tens unit and occasionally my traction unit, if I’ve been walking or standing for hours on end.

TECHCARE Customer Service I’m thinking seriously in purchasing your TechCare Plus 24 Massager to treat Sciatica Leg Pain and weakened Core Muscles. Would this actual unit be a good choice for me or do you have another unit that you folks make that would be better?

Can’t say enough for the TENS Unit. It was used for relief of shoulder pain while I was in Physical Therapy before my shoulder replacement due to torn rotator cuff. Now I am experiencing sciatica pain daily.
I decided to try my unit on this pain and I was relieved immediately, I can not say enough
about what this unit has done for me. Thanks to my Daughter for purchasing it for me.
